Medical delivery by drone is tested in Switzerland!

By 26 September 2017 No Comments

The drones of leisure became more and more accessible. The Chinese company DJI already reigns on this segment with its drones acclaimed by the filmakers (The Phantom, the Mavic Pro, the Spark …).

The sector that is now booming?

Medical care.

We now speak of drones-ambulances, drones-defibrillators or drones delivering medical products.

And these are the one we are interested about.

L'entreprise Matternet

Matternet, a California-based company, is planning to test its autonomous drones for commercial use in Switzerland.

An “autonomous delivery” by drone?

Yes, you heard right.

A 100% autonomous delivery. No pilot controls the aircraft, only technicians to monitor the journey.

A partnership with the Swiss Post …

The canton of Ticino wishes to profit from the technology for medical health.

The aim of the test: make regular deliveries of medical samples between two hospitals in the city of Lugano.

Les drones de Matternet

… for an imminent start!

The test would begin in early 2018.

The test will show if the drones of the company could be operational for commercial use. The aircraft will then have to respect the requirements of safety, practicality and reliability.
